When our “Things” become “Valuables”

We’ve all seen (or experienced first-hand) the resourcefulness that many college kids implement when moving: their mattresses tied to the roof of the car and every square inch of space inside occupied by the big black garbage bags containing everything they own. By employing this ingenuity, these kids saved some serious cash, usually hard to come by during the college years. These moving-MacGyvers will eventually grow up; their things will multiply and, dare I say, the overall value of them will incoverloaded-carrease, some dramatically, some moderately.

When in college and on a shoestring budget, this is the way we all did it. But over time, we go through a transition where what we own are no longer “things”, but “possessions”, “valuables”, and “treasures”. Once we settle down, enter the workforce, and get a permanent home, we start to care more about our belongings, and our cars are no longer a viable option for our move, reliable as they once were. It’s at this point we all call a moving company. There are college kids who sometimes call Morris Moving sometimes for an estimate who say “we’re just looking for a simple mover to come grab our stuff and schlep it to our new apartment.” Such a request generally elicits an honest suggestion of renting a van to save money.

Close up Of A Man Packing Cardboard Box With SellotapeI have a feeling some of you are thinking, “Say what?! A moving company telling a potential customer they’re better off renting a van?! Have you recently participated in a human Whack-a-Mole experiment?” Rest assured, my head is as whole and unbattered as ever. The truth is that once our “things” become “valuables”, we would much rather place the safety of our beloved belongings in the hands of experienced professionals. Whether these belongings are priceless family heirlooms, expensive furniture sets, fine art, pianos, or a framed picture of the family, we want them taken care of.

Once we’ve moved passed stuffing our cars and tying furniture to our roofs, it’s time to call a service-oriented, professional mover to care of our valuables. When you hire Morris Moving, all of your possessions, regardless of monetary or sentimental value, will be treated as though they’re the most precious items on the face of the Earth, because you (and your possessions) deserve the best.
