Rich People Movers? No Way!

Recently someone asked me if I’d classify Morris Moving as “movers for the 1%”, to which I had to slam the brakes and give an adamant “No Way!” For those who’ve placed us in their mental banks as “rich people movers”, please allow me to clarify.

Many have heard me saying things such as “our clients call their things Valuables, Belongings, and Possessions”. Does one only value that which is quantitatively valuable? We don’t believe so. “Valuables” are born from a special connection. The concept of value is far from an objective label assessed based solely on an item’s monetary value. A desk or mirror passed down from one’s parents could be more valuable to someone than an antique couch. A painting done by someone’s aunt can be more valuable than a high-end dresser. Just because we describe our service as luxury, doesn’t mean hiring an incredible moving company is a luxury. Anyone that’s ever had something important broken or ruined by a moving company’s negligence will attest to this.

To give an example: we’re about to move a family from a modest 2 bedroom apartment in Manhattan down to Washington DC. Their furniture, while very tasteful, isn’t exactly lined with gold and stuffed with swan feathers. They don’t have a piano, and they don’t have high-end art. So why did they call us? The husband/father of this family is a DJ, and has a record collection, and a delicate turntable. While this may not be a top-of-the-line turntable, nor an antique, first edition collection of records, these belongings mean a lot to him. They are far more valuable than a custom-made table would be. They knew they wanted them expertly, and delicately handled. They wanted a mover who will care for his possessions almost as much as he does. So they called us!

Even one precious belonging is enough to not want to hire an Uber-mover, as I call them. We are the go-to New York moving company for all things cared for, valued, and cherished. When you are no longer tying your mattress to the roof of your friend’s car, and want to know that your mover’s are experts at taking care of your delicate valuables, give Morris Moving, New York’s boutique mover, a call.
